Enough sunlight falls on our planet in an hour to power the world for a year. Those amazing rays can help Australia move to 100% renewable electricity by 2030. This is the vision of Solar Citizens, the independent community organisation behind a new national Instagram photography competition called ‘Capture the Sun 2030’.

“Capture The Sun 2030 invites budding and professional photographers and social media hounds to snap the sun as it rises or sets and post their best shots on Instagram using the hashtag #capturethesun2030,” said Nell Schofield, CTS Project manager for Solar Citizens.

“On the Spring Equinox, Thursday September 22, the best pics will be judged by a panel of professional photographers including Gary Heery, Simon Harsent and Michael Corridore.

“From Bondi to Cottesloe, from Shipsterns to Mindil Beach, this celebration of the sun aims to shine a light on the power of our closest star and build momentum for solar energy in Australia,” said Ms Schofield.

To help spread the message across our sunburnt country, Solar Citizens has enlisted the talents of Gretel Killeen and Jordan Shanks (Friendly Jordies) to star in a cheeky new video which you can view atwww.capturethesun2030.com

The winner will ride away on a Fonzarelli electric scooter powered by clean, green Diamond Energy. Runners up will score huge hampers from Health Nuts.

Capture The Sun 2030 is the first iteration in a campaign that will track the growth of solar in Australia. Based on robust research by the Institute of Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology Sydney*, the campaign envisions a safer, healthier world for all Australians, a world powered by 100% clean, renewable energy.
