Lexar has attempted to solve the issue many creatives face when capturing screeds of data with their smartphones, with the  launch of the new Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD and Hub on Kickstarter.

Designed primarily for use with smartphones, the tiny SSD clips onto the back of a phone and comes in capacities up to 2TB.

Although we've seen similar Android-friendly devices in the past, it wasn't until Apple’s adoption of USB-C following an EU ruling in 2022, that manufacturers have begun to create more devices compatible with iPhones.

Lexar's new Professional Go Portable SSD is a tiny device that comes with brackets allowing for it to be attached to an iPhone or Android device’s USB-C port.

In addition, an accompanying hub also allows the phone to be charged while it’s in place, and it can even power other devices, like LED fill lights.

The new SSD comes in either 1TB or 2TB capacities. According to Lexar, transfer speeds max out at a read speed of up to 1,050MB/sec and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/sec.

It also uses the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, which means it should be fast too. For a device that's likely to be knocked around, it’s also IP65 rated for dust and waterproofing.

As mentioned, the Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD and Hub is currently available on Kickstarter.

Pledges currently start at $129 USD ($194 AUD) for the 1TB version and $209 ($315) for the 2TB version, slightly cheaper than what their anticipated retail prices will be.
