Panasonic announces Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens

Panasonic has launched a new kit lens for its L-Mount cameras, the Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens.

The company says the new lens is the world's smallest and lightest zoom lens (although this comes with a pretty long disclaimer), and weighs 155g and is 41mm long when retracted. And, unlike many kit lenses, it's also dust, splash, and freeze resistant and can be used in temperatures down to –10°C.

The front element also has a fluorine coating for dirt and oil resistance.

The lens has relatively close-focusing abilities, and is capable of focusing on a subject at 15cm in its 18-21mm focal range.

Its closest focusing distance also goes up to 35cm.

The Lumix S 18-40mm will set you back $899, and is available in late October. It can also be purchased as a kit lens alongside the Lumix S9 for $3,299. Find out more at Panasonic.
