Review: ASUS ProArt Display PA27JCV monitor
For the last two years I have been working remotely as a designer and content creator on the road.
My work sees me spending hours hunched over a 14 inch laptop screen, and if you’ve done any type of creative work you will know that after a while 14 inches does not feel that big at all.
Enter the ASUS ProArt Display 27 inch desktop monitor. Big enough to fit all your essentials onto one workspace, and compact enough that it won’t take up too much of your valuable workspace.
The ASUS ProArt Display PA27JCV monitor is 27 Inches with 5K (5120x2880) LuxPixel AGLR display, 178° wide viewing angle panel and Light Sync solution support Ambient Light Sensor and Backlight Sensor for reliable colour performance every time.
The build
ASUS Pro Art Displays are built on quality, and the PA27JCV is no exception. The monitor is shipped in packaging which is 100% recycled, designed to minimise weight and volume.
Just don’t get rid of the cardboard just yet, because the box was created to be reshaped into smaller boxes to pack away items from your desk, such as cables, adapters and other accessories.
It also includes a foldable phone stand which makes sharing through devices a lot more efficient.
Installation is minimal. The base screws into the arm which clip-locks straight into the monitor. You will be completely set up in under a minute.
Speaking of the base, the PA27JCV’s is 33% smaller compared to its predecessor and the screen has a 30% slimmer profile that measures just 8mm at its thinnest point.
The ergonomic stand offers tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments. It’s as easy as pushing the screen to your desired position.
You can rotate 90° in both directions and for complete control a quick release feature allows you to VESA mount the monitor on a wall to save on desk space.
There are multiple ports for easy connection. In the back, level with the power cord and on/off switch, the PA27JCV has a HDMI 2.1, a Display Port 1.4, two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports and an earphone jack.
It also has one USB-C and USB-A port conveniently located just under the front of the screen.
When you use the back USB-C port to connect a laptop it will also run charge, meaning minimal cords on your desk while you work.
Using this USB-C also means anything you plug into the front USB hub will automatically connect to your main device, meaning content sharing just became a whole lot easier.
Another great feature of the PA27JCV is the built in auto KVM which means you can easily switch between two connected laptops or PCs while using a single keyboard and mouse, allowing for effortless multitasking.
There is a screen menu right on front, with a 5-way navigator to toggle through options. You can access colour palette settings, image controls, input set up and all your general settings.
There is also the option for shortcuts where you can set your favourites to avoid scrolling through the menu every time.
Image Quality
Each ProArt display is individually calibrated in the factory to achieve Calman verified colour accuracy, so you can feel safe knowing that you will get professional results straight out of the box.
The 5K HDR (5120x2880) panel provides 77% more workspace than a 4K monitor of the same size - which makes this screen perfect for content creators.
The PA27JCV boasts 218ppi pixel density, which compares to more than 2.5x a 27inch FHD display. High pixel density means your text is always sharp and easy to read, while the image clarity makes for a more enjoyable experience for creators working on detailed and long-winded projects.
A very valuable feature, for me, is the LuxPixel technology. This is an anti-glare, low-reflection (AGLR) coating that provides clear visuals even when working with a bright window behind you. This might be my favourite feature.
Working solely off a very reflective laptop screen, and in remote locations where I can’t control sun glare, I’m often faced with a screen that’s impossible to see.
The LuxPixel technology minimises reflections and ensures you only see accurate colours and sharp details - It’s like staring at a paper-like printed version of your screen, without losing any detail or quality.
Even working in high glare I never had to increase the screen brightness above 50%.
The PA27JCV is fitted with ASUS Light Sync Technology, which includes two sensors designed to ensure colour accuracy and precise colour temperature right on set up.
The Backlight Sensor automatically detects backlight brightness without the usual delay and the Ambient Light Sensor will adjust display brightness and colour temperature based on the lighting in your working environment.
Wrap Up
Set up and handling ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
The PA27JCV is lightweight and so simple to set up. The base stand is minimal so your monitor will take up less desk space, but still offering all the quality of the ProArt range.
Features ★ ★ ★ ★ 1/2
Packed with features the PA27JCV is made for creators collaborating through multiple devices. With fully customisable settings, and the ability to connect multiple PCs, you can have total control over your creativity. The PA27JCV also comes with a free 3 month Creative Cloud subscription.
Image quality ★ ★ ★ ★
I’m so impressed by the quality of this monitor. The AGLR coating makes this screen the best I have used. To be honest fingerprints can never be avoided, (especially by a designer who constantly touches her screen) however the LuxPixel technology completely eliminates the sight of them while working.
The paper-like screen effect also makes it easy on the eyes when working for longer periods.
Value for money ★ ★ ★ ★ 1/2
At $1,199 the PA27JCV is still an investment for some, however the features are undeniable and will only positively support your work as a creator.
Final Word
It’s safe to say this monitor was a favourite for me to work with. If you have the freedom of a fixed workspace the PA27JCV will still provide you ample room to unleash your creativity and for those of us who, for whatever reason, work in a multi-use space, this 27 inch ProArt Display will give you all the quality and features with the portability to move to the side if ever called.
For those of you, like me, who have been limiting your creativity (and eyesight) staying trapped within the confines of a laptop screen, the PA27JCV will be a very welcomed upgrade you will definitely not regret investing in.
