Rode launches Wireless Me mic system and free iOS app
Rode has launched its newest mic system, the Wireless Me, along with a free companion video and audio recording app.
The Wireless ME is described by the Sydney company as the ultimate grab-and-go microphone for content creators. It has a similar form factor to the previous Wireless GO generations, but strips the setup back to make it more user-friendly.
The Wireless ME consists of a single transmitter and receiver, which are paired out of the box, enabling set up in seconds.
The system utilises Rode's series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption, and, like its siblings, it features a broadcast-quality microphone built into the transmitter, so there’s no extra equipment required to start recording.
The Wireless ME also features a “narrator” microphone built into the receiver unit. Dubbed the ‘ME Mic’, this feature allows for audio recording from both in front of and behind the camera simultaneously, allowing for the capture of two-way interviews or voice overs for video content.
In addition, a second Wireless ME or Wireless GO II transmitter can also be connected to the receiver, allowing for dual-channel recording, or a three-microphone wireless system.
The Wireless ME also features Rode's GainAssist technology, which utilises algorithms that automatically control the audio levels on-the-fly to ensure they are perfectly balanced and to help prevent clipping or distortion.
According to Rode, this technology is significantly more advanced than standard automatic gain control features found on cameras and other audio devices.
The Wireless ME is shipping worldwide and is available for $229.
In addition to the release of the Wireless ME, Rode has also launched a free iOS video app, RØDE Capture.
The free app is described as a fully featured video app perfect for TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, and offers control over aspect ratio, video resolution, frame rate and zoom. The app also features Dual Cam modes for recording with the front and selfie cameras simultaneously, either in split screen or picture-in-picture mode.
In addition to the video capture features, RØDE Capture also offering direct in-app control of compatible Rode products, including the Wireless ME, Wireless GO II, VideoMic GO II, and others.
Functionality within the app extends to turning features on and off, activating digital signal processing, and adjusting audio levels, among other features.
RØDE Capture is free to download and works with all iOS devices running version 16 and above. Find out more here.
