Sigma launches minimalist BF compact camera
Sigma has unveiled the BF, a slick, compact 24.6-megapixel full-frame camera built for those who appreciate the 'essence' of photography.
The new compact camera features just three buttons, a dial, and a shutter release – no fuss, no distractions.
Weighing in at just 388 grams and measuring 129.5 by 73.7 by 35.6 millimetres, the L-mount Sigma BF's essential settings are accessible directly through the live view screen, with secondary adjustments nestled in an optional menu, and deeper functions stored in the system menu.
It means photographers must tweak core settings like shutter speed, aperture, ISO, EV compensation, and colour mode via the menu.
Interestingly, the BF is the first mirrorless camera to integrate haptic feedback into its dial, center button, option button, and playback button. The technology is common in smartphones.
That comparison to smartphones continues with a 2.1 million dot rear display. The BF comes with a built-in 230GB SSD, capable of holding over 14,000 JPEGs or 4,300 uncompressed RAW images.
According to Sigma, the BF is the first of its kind to boast a “true unibody” design – carved from a single block of aluminium, a process that the company says takes seven hours.
The Sigma BF is also no slouch in the video department, and can capture video at up to 6K resolution and in L-Log in H.264 and H.265 at up to 29.97 frames per second (fps) in 6K and 4K.
The new camera will be available in black or silver and is scheduled to ship by April 2025, although no local availability or pricing has been confirmed. In the USA, both versions will retail for $1,999 ($3,152 AUD).
