Zeiss is back with two new F1.4 Otus ML prime lenses

Following a teaser Instagram post a couple of weeks ago, Zeiss has returned, announcing a pair of new Otus ML lenses.

The Otus ML series are available in two focal lengths: a 1.4/50mm lens and an 1.4/85mm lens, with both available for Sony E, Canon RF and Nikon Z-Mount. As with previous Otus optics, the lenses are manual focus only and carry a price tag that puts them out of reach of all but the most well-healed amateur photographers.

Both Otus ML lenses feature a smooth metal focus ring with a precision helicoid drive for accurate focusing. Manual aperture control is also equipped with a de-click function for video, and Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating further reduces reflections and flare, improving clarity and colour accuracy.

The 1.4/50mm weighs 0.68kg and the 1.4/85mm 1.04kg.

Sebastian Döntgen, head of Zeiss Mobile Imaging and Photography: “We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Otus ML lens to the community of photographers. This lens reflects our ongoing commitment to quality and innovation. The Otus ML family combines classic features with modern advancements, showcasing our dedication to enhancing photographic technology while honouring traditional craftsmanship.”

And the price? Well for now, no local pricing has been made available, but the Zeiss Otus ML 1.4/50mm will be out later this year with a retail price of $2,500 USD ($4,025 AUD), with the 1.4/85mm following later in 2025 at $2,999 ($4,829).
