Hi Matt,
You mentioned in your comments that this photograph was an experiment in depth-of-field.
If you were hoping to achieve a shallow depth-of-field then I do think you have been successful; the foreground is reasonably sharp while the background is definitely out of focus.
I do not know the scale of this particular plant but it is worth noting that the smaller the subject is, and therefore the closer you need to get to it to make a photograph, the more likely the background will be out of focus no matter what aperture you are using.
The one thing I do believe this photograph needs is a horizon line. It does not matter whether the background is in or out of focus, however showing the horizon often adds a sense of place and perspective to the scene. It lets the viewer know that there is more to this photograph than just a few plants on some dirt; it adds visual context.
I hope you get to photographs and more plants like this in the near future, but this time experiment with adding some background context to the image, as well as exploring more and less depth-of-field. I just hope the wind is more helpful next time.
Cheers,
Anthony
