Hi Cindy,
Many years ago, when I was starting out in photography, slide film with the popular medium of choice among keen amateur and professional photographers. Unlike negative film, slide film needed to be exposed with great care, which meant that most of the time you set the exposure for whatever the light meter told you.
While the “correct” exposure setting usually gave you a satisfactory result though, smart photographers realised that there were times when you are better to over or under expose the film to suit the subject.
Often they would underexpose a photograph to darken the shadows and get more saturation into the colours, while there were times when photographing white subjects when it was better to overexpose the scene to make the whites look cleaner. Like most things, knowing when to over or under expose came with experience.
In this photograph here, my feeling is that you would have been better to slightly over-expose the photograph to make the whites look just a little brighter. As another option though, I would simply select the three flowers in the foreground using a quick select tool and use the Exposure adjustment tool to lighten the flowers just half a stop (+0.5).
All you need to do then is clone out the bright highlight in the top right-hand corner and I think the photo looks rather perfect.
Hope this is a help… cheers, Anthony
