Hi Gloria,
As photographs go I would describe this as a lucky day for you (although that mouse was not quite so lucky). Many people would wait for ages to get a photograph like this.
Overall there is not a lot I would change in your approach to making this photograph; the composition and the moment are working well for you. One thing that I would look at though is your exposure options.
You made this photograph using a 70-200 lens with a 1.4x teleconverter; the exposure that you used was 1/1000s @ f5.6 and 250 ISO.
The problem with using teleconverters is that they do tend to degrade the image, therefore it is not a bad idea to try and close down the aperture at least one or two stops to ensure you maintain sharp image quality. In this instance I would have been inclined to increase the ISO to 800 ISO and close the aperture down to about f8 – just to give myself a bit more sharpness.
I have to say though, if you are going to take keep taking photographs like this you might have to invest in a longer telephoto lens. Christmas is only a few months away… it might be time to start dropping hints to your loved ones!
Cheers,
Anthony
