Hi Ian
There are a lot of factors that go into making good landscape photograph; the location, time a day, sky conditions and in this instance sea conditions all play an important role. One of the most important elements though, is emotion, and in some cases drama.
This location on the south coast of Victoria is slowly succumbing to erosion. For that reason, I think in telling the story of this place I'd like to see more wave action. If you live near this area I would be inclined to return to this location whenever there's a big southerly blowing; then you'll start to see some wave action breaking through the head of this gorge.
Moment also has an important role in landscape photography. Being there is not enough; you want to be able to capture a wave at its peak moment to really illustrate the drama of the situation.
As for this image, all I think you need to do is crop it to a square format! Get rid of the horizon, get rid of the wave falling out the bottom of the picture, and I think it looks a lot better.
I hope you get to revisit this location in a southerly… just remember to take a good jacket!
Cheers for now, Anthony.
