Hi Rachel,

Part of the success to making a good photograph is making people see what we want them to see. Often this means removing any annoying distractions that might be apparent in the scene. In the photograph that you have here there are three really distracting elements... there is the bright sky in the top left of the scene, the bright foliage in the lower left of the pic and the light on the beam in the lower right. All three elements are taking our attention away from the gorgeous repeating elements of those arches.

To make this photograph better you do not need to go and do a reshoot, you just need to take some affirmative action in Photoshop. To begin with I used the Spot Healing Brush Tool to clone out the bright foliage and beam in the lower picture. Then I used the Paint Bucket tool to drop in a sky blue colour directly into the top left corner; because the sky is effectively bright already, the blue will fill up that corner easily without bothering the tree line.

Finally I added a vignette to the photograph. There are several ways that you can do this but in this instance I used Nik Software’s Color Efex Pro 4 to add a lens vignette. Some might describe what I have done here as a little bit quick and dirty but it does give you an idea of the potential that you have for this photograph.

Well done...

Anthony
