Hi Larry,
This is definitely a beautiful moment that makes camping (and more importantly, getting up early in the morning) worthwhile. The scene, along with the early morning mist is delightful and I am enjoying how you have made the decision to compose this image as a square photograph.
While this image is getting rather close to most landscape photographers' ideas of perfection, there are a couple of adjustments that you could make to improve this image.
The first of these adjustments is to the white balance. This is just a guess but I feel that you made the image with the white balance on your camera set to auto because I sense that there should be more warmth in this image.
Like the automatic exposure control on most cameras, the white balance assumes that the world should be gray and as a result it can often dumb down the colour in a scene.
If you shot the image in RAW mode then I would go back and set the white balance to either the Daylight or the Cloudy setting… this should restore some of the original warmth to the photograph.
My second consideration is that you should add about five percent more space to the cropping of the image. For the moment it is too tight and just needs more space to breath.
If you can go back to the original file and make these two adjustments then I think you will have a winner of a photograph.
Well done.
