Hi Ross, As great landscape photographs go, this is never going to be one of them. I don't necessarily think it is your photography, I just feel that the subject itself hasn't quite risen to the occasion.
This does raise the question though; should photographers be looking for the world's best landscapes to photograph or should we be trying to make the best of the landscapes you have easy access to?
Personally, I do think too many photographers spend too much time travelling the world looking for the perfect landscape when there are many great places to photograph locally.
If this place means a lot to you then I would keep visiting it, and every time you go there make a photograph no matter what the time of day or the conditions. Slowly you will start to see the different moods of the space and one day you will realise you've made a good photo of it.
