Hi Maurizio,

I rather enjoy his portrait, and one of the things that works for it is a well considered use of the rule of thirds. This woman's face is positioned on the upper left-hand intersection of the thirds while the bamboo poles are well-placed along the right-hand third of the picture. Those bamboo poles are in fact a very strong design element within the image.

One thing that is rather distracting in the photograph though, is the burnt-out head covering this woman is wearing; it is so bright that viewers cannot help but be drawn to it so it detracts from the face.

If you photographed this image in RAW then I would suggest going back and burning back in the detail in the towel. While you're at it I would also darken those baskets in the background too. Ideally you want to manipulate the tones so that you direct your viewers' eyes where you want them to go… in this case the woman’s face.

If you find yourself in similar shooting situation again, I would be inclined to slowly crouch just a little so that those bright baskets would no longer be behind the face.

There is also another good reason for getting lower; if we look at people on their level we are treating them as equals.

Good work, Anthony.
