When it
comes to making a good photograph,there are three essential elements
that need to be considered: lighting, strong design and emotion.
Within this photograph I think the lighting is starting to come around in your favour; there is warmth to it, along with good modelling on those rocks.
The design of the photograph is weak though. I think what lets it down the most is that the beautiful shape of the pine has been lost against the background. If possible, I would have been inclined to walk forward and put the pine into the left of the frame, silhouetted against the sky. Another option would have been to walk backwards and use a much longer lens to celebrate the pine against the glowing cliffs.
That third element that I mention, emotion, is one of the hardest to convey in a photograph, but if you love this location then one day you will find a way of bringing the emotional connection to the photograph.
