'A new normal': Victorian Archives Centre launches virtual exhibition
On Wednesday this week the Victorian Archives Centre launched A new normal, its latest online photography exhibition.
The exhibition features an array of contemporary images that depict the unprecedented year that was 2020. These contemporary stills, however, have been put on show alongside a number of much older images taken from the collections of the Public Record Office Victoria and the National Archives of Australia.
The two sets of photographs have been thoughtfully paired to draw parallels and comparisons between our most recent challenges and achievements, and those of the past.
The contemporary images on show have been captured by local street photographers and photojournalists, including work from Julie Millowick, Ilana Rose, Cathrin Plunkett, Mark Forbes, Michael Currie, Steph Bolt, Bruce Furmedge, Chris Kelly, Christopher Hopkins, Joseph Chow, and Andrea Esposito.
In keeping with its Covid-safe protocols, the Archives Centre has chosen to showcase A new normal purely in virtual form, which also means that it can be easily accessed by anyone and shared around the world.
