A new photography exhibition currently running in Cloncurry, QLD, aims to bring the heart of this unique region to life.

French backpacker Florent Goy's exhibition A walk in Cloncurry, which runs until April 28 at the Dr Harvey Sutton Gallery, is described as a celebration of Cloncurry’s rugged beauty, and captures the areas iconic scenery, rich history, and the everyday moments that define the spirit of its community.

Goy says he originally arrived in Cloncurry as part of the requirement to work six months in a remote area of Australia to validate his third working holiday visa.

He says he quickly felt at home, and decided to stay for six months.

"I had two jobs and no days off, so I was very busy, but the beauty of this town inspired me to create this project," he said.

"It was during this time that the project gradually took shape, from taking the photos to getting the art gallery's approval, printing the images etc."

The images in resulting series were captured with both film and digital, on Goy's Contax T2 and Canon M50 Mark II.

"With this exhibition, the idea is to take you on a walk through Cloncurry, to show you the beauty of this town you may know, and to help you discover or rediscover the richness that surrounds you," he says.

"The view on the area is that of a young backpacker - a foreigner, discovering Cloncurry, its atmosphere, its people and its character - the Australian outback," he says.

"This town, these people, have given me so much that I felt the need to return the favour, in my own humble way, through photography."
