Carousel, Adobe’s cloud-based imaging application for iPads, iPhones, and Macs went on sale this week.
The software allows users to access their entire photo library from multiple Apple devices including iPad, iPhone (3GS, 4 and 4S), iPod Touch (4G) and Mac computers running OS X Lion.
Once an image library is imported into Carousel any edits, deletions or additions made to the library on one device are automatically updated across all devices linked to the account without the need for syncing.
Adobe says the software uses “a refined version of the processing engine found in Adobe Lightroom” with the option to crop and rotate images and adjust variables such as exposure, shadows, highlights, white balance, vibrance, clarity and contrast. Users can also choose from more than a dozen special effects.
As with Lightroom, any edits you make are non-destructive, which means they can be undone or changed at any time.
Each subscription to Carousel lets you create up to five photo collections (called carousels) of unlimited size. Each photo collection can be shared with up to five other people, without the need for additional subscriptions.
While Carousel is available as a free download, it’s not cheap. Access to the service costs $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. From January 31, the price goes up to $9.99 per month or $99 per year. A free 30-day trial subscription is available.
