Competition is heating up in cloud storage with Amazon announcing an 'unlimited' photo storage plan for US$11.99 per year as part of its Cloud Drive service.
The plan allows users to store an unlimited number of still image files plus 5GB of non photo files such as videos and music. Unfortunately not all Raw files are recognised as image files and are therefore not included in the 'unlimited' cap. Amazon has published a list of Raw files it does recognise and while Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras are well represented, other brands, including Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung and Pentax do not get a mention. Amazon says the list is not definitive. Presumably it will be updated over time.
Amazon has also announced an additional 'Unlimited Everything Plan', which covers all file types – including music, video, all raw files, documents and more. It costs US$59.99 a year.
