The Australian Centre for Photography's (ACP) Spring Season 2013 will showcase works by Australian photographers Emmanuel Angelicas, Rowan Conroy and Robert Besanko.
Emmanuel Angelicas’ 'Buka' is the culmination of a decade photographing Balinese culture. From cock fighting and Balinese warriors, to portraits of the Balinese royal family, Angelicas has printed his photographs on various alternative surfaces such as stone, wood and silk, creating a unique insight into the island’s community, from the traditional to the contemporary.
In 'The Woodhouse Rephotography Project', Rowan Conroy follows in the footsteps of William John Woodhouse, an archaeologist who took approximately 1350 large-format glass plate negatives of historical sites in mainland Greece between 1889 and 1936. Basing himself in Athens for 10 months, Conroy photographed the exact locations of 145 Woodhouse exposures. The exhibition presents Conroy's images, captured with a large format, colour, digital camera alongside Woodhouse's original prints, making for a unique comparison of past and present day Greece.
The Spring Season also brings the final three instalments of Robert Besanko’s Contemplations, a project revealed monthly over a twelve month period. Audiences are invited to contemplate the differences between his traditional analogue photographs and new digital representations of the works.
The Spring Season 2013 runs from 31 August to 17 November 2013, with Angelicas and Conroy holding separate artist talks at the gallery.
The Australian Centre for Photography is located at 257 Oxford St Paddington, NSW.
