AP's free monthly photo comp August 2024: The winners!

Congratulations to Jennifer Smith, who has won AP's free monthly photo comp for August with her image Crawling on a grass edge.

In a totally stacked field of entries in August, Jennifer's creative shot stood out for its unique take on perspective - and also by showing a subject that's not immediately obvious.

"What I loved about this shot was the unique angle that it was captured at, alongside the quirky subject itself," explains AP ed. Mike O'Connor.

"There's a cool sense of depth and a real wow factor when you realise you're looking at a particularly hairy caterpillar captured from straight down - it's just a great shot."

We also chose two further special mentions, Jane Willis' Tiny dancer, and Venkatesh Kittur's Duomo di Milano.

Over on Facebook, our People's choice this month was taken out by Miriam Bearham and her image Tree Veins, which had 64 votes at competition close. 

Jennifer and Miriam win a 12-month print and digital subscription, respectively, for winning the monthly comp for August.
