Congratulations to Jo Howes, and her image Carrying the world on his shoulders, which has won AP's free monthly photo comp for February.

The success of the image, we reckon, is down to it speaking so well to the theme.

What we loved about Jo's image it really is an amazing place, and one we'd never seen before. There's something quite eerie about the image too, with the colossal carving emerging from the fog. compositionally, the front-on perspective puts you right at the eye level of the subject, making it particularly compelling. It's an image that leaves you in awe, and that makes it a winner.

Jo wins a 12-month print subscription to either AP or Capture for winning the monthly comp.

We also chose two special mentions, Oliver Risi's Hawa Mahal India, and Gemma Boss' Watermelon Avenue.

Over on Facebook, Tania Petrie's image Cradle Mountain Sunset easily took out the People's Choice, with 180 votes at competition close.

Tania wins a 12-month digital subscription to either AP or Capture.
