AP's free monthly photo comp September 2024: The winners!

Congratulations to Callum Sims, whose image Life of a rat in India has won our free monthly photo comp for September. The theme was 'Little things'.

Our judge Mike O'Connor said the success of the image came from its clever observance of a unique moment.

"This is a real story image that has echoes of Steve McCurry's documentary style photography. You've done a fantastic job of taking the photo without scaring its smallest character, and also done well to capture something of the grittiness of India - this is a great shot."

Mike also chose two special mentions, Alan Coligado's Hanging on, and Jason Lim's Small Girl, Big Wall.

Over on Facebook, our always popular People's choice vote was won by Gianluca Carretta, who had 88 likes at competition close for her image Good luck.
