Atong Atem 'Us' exhibition set to open in Sydney
Sydney's Australian Centre for Photography is set to host an exhibition of works by acclaimed South Sudanese photographer Atong Atem.
Drawing on her heritage, Atem's images are described as critical, sentimental, and visually striking, and pay homage to West African studio photography of the 1960s.
Atong Atem is an artist and writer from Bor living in Narrm, Melbourne. Her work explores postcolonial practices in the diaspora, the relationship between public and private spaces and the politics of looking and being looked at.

As a young woman, Atem utilises the many possibilities within photography, video and social media to analyse her contemporary world and to explore the role the past plays in shaping the present and the future.
The 'Us' exhibition is curated by Claire Monneraye, Australian Centre for Photography and produced by City of Sydney, Customs House.
Official opening: Wednesday 1 March, 7.00pm - 9.00pm, Customs House, 31 Alfred Street, Sydney. (Register here)
