August 'Flight' free monthly photo comp - the winners!

Huge congratulations to Sharnee O'Rourke who has won our August 'Flight' photo competition with her image Pip, the Kelpie.

AP Editor Mike O'Connor chose the winner this month from a stacked field of creative images.

"I like this image because it's not what you immediately expect when you think of the word 'flight'," he said.

"Despite this, Pip really is flying, and there's a wonderful sense of lift-off with the image that plays to the theme perfectly. It's beautifully captured too - everything you want to be sharp and in-focus is - just look at that great splash of water, and the lighting is lovely too."

As our judge's choice winner, Sharnee wins a 12 month print subscription to either Australian Photography or Capture. 

Mike also chose two special mentions, Richard Misquitta's Dusky Woodswallow and Kate Mularczyk, The Birds.

Over on Facebook, Stephanie Withers took out the People's Choice award with her image Flying at dusk bagging more than 200 votes at competition close, and taking home a 12-month digital subscription to AP or Capture.
