David Knight: Isolations

Metaphors are a powerful part of David Knight’s latest exhibition, Isolations, which is now showing at the Meyer Gallery in Waterloo, Sydney. Faces are unseen as some people are masked by scratchy surfaces and others by the clothing they wear. The figures are anonymous, mysterious, isolated and alone.

Sydney-based Knight shot the images over the past five years and was driven by an interest in issues like immigration, social dislocation and the loss of the traditional community.

Born in the UK, David Knight began his career in London before moving to Dubai in 1995.  Over the next four years his work took him across the United Arab Emirates to Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

He moved to Australia in late 1998 and is now an Australian citizen, living in Sydney with his wife and twin sons.

Isolations is showing at the Meyer Gallery, 2 Danks Street Waterloo, NSW, until 9 November 2013. The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Closing drinks with the artist are scheduled for this Saturday evening.
