Epson has revealed details about its upcoming Stylus Photo R2000 A3+ printer, which is expected to go on sale in Australia in June. The new model is set to replace the ageing but popular R1900, and uses the same inkset but with larger cartridges and a new, more accurate, print head.

Epson says the larger UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 cartridges can produce up to 50 percent more prints than the cartridges used in the R1900. Connectivity options have been expanded too, with users now able to connect via ethernet and Wi-Fi as well as USB 2.0.

The R2000 can print on cut sheet and roll paper, photographic and fine art media, canvas, art boards, and DVDs. The new eight-channel print head produces a maximum resolution of 5670 x 1440 optimized dpi and variable-sized droplets as small as 1.5 picolitre. An ink-repellent coating on the print head is said to reduce maintenance.

The Epson Stylus Photo R2000 is expected to retail for $1099.
