Could Polaroid film be making a comeback? Following our report last month on the release of a new line of instant film in Australia for Polaroid 600 cameras, design website Design Taxi this week showcased the work of Italian photographer Maurizio Galimberti who, for the past ten or so years, has been working on a series of polaroid collages featuring some of the world's most famous faces, from Johnny Depp to Lady Gaga.
Born in 1956, Galimberti began experimenting with Polaroid cameras in the early 1980s. According to his bio, he initially chose Polaroid because he "could not stand waiting for the process before viewing the result of his shoot and also because he was always afraid of the dark in the darkroom."
His images of celebrities, 'Celebrity Works', add a new perspective to the traditional portrait with up to 84 individual polaroids assembled in grid-like collages to form mosaic compositions showing the sitter from multiple angles.
