Fujifilm has flagged the upcoming release of the FinePix Z900EXR, a lightweight compact with a 16-megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor and 3.5-inch, touch-screen LCD.

It features a 28-140mm (equivalent) zoom lens and can capture 1080p Full HD movies in the H.264 (MOV) format.

The Z900EXR shares the same back-side illuminated (BSI) sensor as the HS20EXR and F550EXR. With conventional sensor designs, light has to pass through a layer of wiring before it reaches the photo diodes. This reduces the amount of light on the sensor. With a BSI sensor, the wiring layer and photo diodes are not in the light path, which allows better sensitivity, even allowing for the relatively small size of the sensor.

The Fujifilm Z900EXR is expected to be available from May 2011 in a choice of colours including black, red, pink and blue.
