The Fujifilm X100S, a successor to the X100, has a higher definition hybrid viewfinder and a new sensor and processor. The manufacturer says the camera's 16.3 million pixels APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II, which increase resolution by around 25%, and reduce noise by more than 30%, have the ability to capture high-resolution images comparable to those taken on full-frame sensors. Fujifilm has removed an optical low-pass filter and installed a powerful processor with the aim of making a clear image with minimal graininess, even at high ISO settings.

The camera's X-Trans CMOS II sensor has built-in Phase Detection pixels for fast AF in as little as 0.08 seconds. The EXR Processor II also has fast response times with a start-up time of only 0.5 seconds, and a shooting interval of 0.5 seconds. Shutter time lag is 0.01 seconds.

Also new to the X100S is the world's first digital split-image feature, which displays dual images on the left and right to be lined up for manual focusing. Fujiflim says this enables accurate focusing, especially when working with an open aperture or macro shooting. It has a handy Focus Peak Highlight function, which indicates high-contrast areas of a subject for more precise fine tuning of focusing.

Depending on the subject and the scene, users can switch between two viewfinder views: optical or electronic. The Optical Viewfinder (OVF) is useful when users want to see their subject with the same bright clarity they see with their eye, or when time lag is an issue. The Electronic viewfinder (EVF) is useful to visually check focus, exposure, white balance and depth of field while users compose their shot.

The X100S has a high-contrast and wide viewing angle 2.8in Premium Clear LCD (460K dots), Super Intelligent flash, a burst shooting rate of up to six frames per second at full resolution (max 31 frames), a Focus Peak highlight function, artistic filters, and full HD movie recording (60fps/30fps).

The X100S also has 'film simulation' modes. Users can choose from 10 simulation options which replicate the results achieved by Fujifilmís colour reversal films (Velvia, Provia, and Astia), professional colour negative films, monochrome filters and sepia. Also available on the X100S is an advanced filter function; users can choose from eight different artistic effects.

Finally, the unit's accessories include a wide conversion lens designed for the X100 and X100S, which shortens the lens focal length from 35mm to 28mm; a leather case (users can remove and insert a memory card and battery without having to take the case off); and a shoe-mount flash slot for which three types of Fujifilm external flash are available, capable of high-precision TTL auto flash control.
