Getty shares its 17 favourite photos from the Paris Olympics 2024
Visual media company Getty Images has released a shortlist of 17 favourite images from Paris 2024, one for each day of the Olympics.
For the first time, Getty pioneered new private 5G-enabled image transfer technology in Paris to get its images from the camera sensor to media outlets, backed up by Starlink.
According to Axios, Getty's goal at the Olympics was that for key moments photos would hit their wire in as little as 26 seconds from when they were taken.
This image was captured using Getty Images newly developed underwater robotic camera, which coupled with our 25 years of underwater expertise means we are able to capture previously impossible underwater imagery. The clarity and colour of this image makes it stand out with a beautiful composition. Once delivered, editors at several clusters around the world (London, Australia and the U.S, to cover all time zones) would sort through the images, before sending them on to media.
According to Getty, this meant that almost none of the editing was done in Paris, marking the first time Getty had gone fully remote with its Olympics editing.
In addition, the company set up an array of remotely controlled cameras high above the track and pools in Paris to augment what its photographers could capture from the ground - many of the the images in the selection below were captured with these devices.

Tom Daley has now completed his Olympic set. After winning gold at the Tokyo Games, he celebrated his silver medal with his diving partner Noah Williams today. Tom had his first Olympic Games at London 2012 and returned to diving before Paris after a two-year break for an emotional reason: His son Robbie wanted to see his father compete at an Olympic Games. It was a special moment for the British athlete captured by Getty Images photographer Clive Rose that ended in a spontaneous celebration: A kiss after the medal ceremony. Tom and his diving partner Noah presented their silver medals in their own way. The moment shows all the emotions and feelings released by these high performing athletes.
