Manfrotto has added a new three-way tripod head with compact foldable handles to its range. The 290-series head (MH293D3-Q2) is designed for applications such as architecture and still life, while also allowing accurate, precise framing and solid support of up to 4kg of camera gear.
A unique mechanism allows the handles to be 'folded' when the head is not in use, so it takes up less space when packed, and is easier to carry. Three levelling bubbles are offered – one for each axis of rotation – making it easier to get straight horizons in camera, even when the horizon is not visible. A quick-release system allows users to attach and detach the camera by releasing a single thumb lever.
The new head will be available on its own for $120, or packaged with several tripod options ranging in price from $195 (with three-section aluminium legs, 2kg) to $450 (with four-section carbon fibre legs, 1.85kg).
