New Sydney exhibition shines light on fashion photographer Tony Potts
The career of celebrated fashion and fine art photographer Tony Potts is set to be celebrated at a new exhibition in Sydney's Potts Point when it opens this week.
The exhibition, which will run at Art + Gallery, will offer a rare glimpse into Potts' career, featuring his most iconic black and white nudes, as well as his celebrated Bondi images.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Potts has collaborated with top designers, models and publications. As a model, he appeared in editorial pages of almost every Vogue magazine throughout Europe.
He would also work with many of the world's best fashion photographers - Helmut Newton, Patrick Demarchelier, Albert Watson, Oliviero Toscani, as well as Norman Parkinson and others - greatly influencing his future at work as a photographer.
He is perhaps best known however, for his black and white nudes, his fashion photography, (particularly his Australian work of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s), as well as a series on Sydney's Bondi Beach - an important timestamp on the beach culture that has remained quintessential to Australian life.
In addition, his fine art photography hangs in many private collections in Australia, Europe and the United States, and his work has been exhibited in galleries and arts fairs in Milan, London, Paris and Sydney.
“It’s an honour to showcase my work in a setting that celebrates creativity and style,” said Potts.
“This exhibition represents my journey through photography, capturing moments that have defined my career and I can’t wait to share these images and the stories behind them with the audience.”
Art+ Gallery Director Jay Lyon described Potts contributions to fashion photography as "legendary".
"This exhibition will undoubtedly be a highlight of our season.
We are incredibly excited to present his iconic Bondi shots and offer our visitors an opportunity to experience his remarkable vision up close.”
The exhibition runs at Art + Gallery at 5/81 Macleay street, Potts Point, Sydney, from 8-21 November. You can find out more here.
