Nikon has unveiled its first waterproof digital camera. The Coolpix AW100 is waterproof to 10 meters, shockproof to 1.5 meters and can withstand temperatures as low as -10°C. It also includes a GPS receiver with electronic compass and map display.
Key features include a back-illuminated, 16-megapixel, CMOS sensor, a 28-140mm (equivalent) zoom lens and a three-inch, 460,000-dot LCD.
The camera can shoot Full-HD video (1920 x 1080p) and features a large action button on the side which makes it easier to take photos underwater or when wearing gloves.
A GPS log function can be used to track and record movement even when the camera is switched off. Logs can then be saved and displayed in the camera monitor.
The camera comes in a choice of four colours – orange, black, blue and camouflage green – and will be on sale in Australia from 8 September. Pricing will be announced closer to the release date.
