Nikon has unveiled the D5200 a new entry-level DSLR with a 24.1 megapixel APS-C, CMOS sensor, 5fps continue shooting and a side-hinged, vari-angle, 3in (76mm) LCD.
The new model uses 39 separate focus points for fast and reliable focus tracking and a 2016-pixel RGB sensor to accurately assess scene brightness and colour information. ISO sensitivity stretches from 100 to 6400 in normal operations, though it can be boosted to 12800 and 25600 in Hi 1 and Hi 2 modes, respectively.
Nikon's D-movie function supports Full HD movies (1920 x 1080 60i/50i) with contrast-detect AF providing continuous autofocusing when the focus mode is set to Full-time Servo (AF-F) and the AF-area mode to Subject-tracking AF. There's a built-in stereo microphone , or sound can be captured via the optional Stereo Microphone ME-1.
Seven special effects can be applied to still images with the option to preview the effects on the monitor before capture. Effects include Selective Colour, Miniature Effect, Night Vision, Silhouette, High Key, Low Key and Colour Sketch. Miniature Effect and Selective Colour can be applied to images after they have been captured.
Wireless image transfer is available via the optional WU-1A allowing images to be sent to a smart phone or tablet or to blogs or social networking sites.
