Olympus says its new flagship Stylus Tough TG-2 features the brightest zoom lens in its class, improved waterproofing, and extreme close-up shooting capability. It's aimed at adventure and active lifestyle enthusiasts who want the toughest compact digital camera with the highest specifications.
In the harshest of weather and terrain conditions, the manufacturer says the Stylus Tough TG-2ís bright f/2 zoom lens lets users shoot in natural light with outstanding clarity while its improved sealing system enables them to capture photos and videos to a depth of 15 metres without any additional housing. According to Olympus its new Advanced Super Macro feature also enables extraordinary microscope-class magnification.
The camera's wide-angle 4x zoom covers a 25-100mm range, which is ideal for shooting anything from wide landscapes, to underwater vistas or close-range portraits. Its robust optical system is designed to retain precise imaging accuracy even when the camera is dropped or knocked. This high-performance lens makes use of professional-class optics derived from Olympus' renowned Zuiko SLR lenses. For precise control of background blurring, its Aperture Priority exposure mode provides fine adjustment of depth-of-field (background de-focus), maximising the aesthetic power of the bright f/2 lens. Optional fisheye and telephoto lens converters can be bayonet-mounted to the front of the lens to enhance visual perspectives, both on land and underwater.
The new Tough has a 12 Megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor, an advanced 1cm Super Macro (all zoom range) mode, Dual Image Stabilisation (sensor shift + digital IS); and Multi-Motion IS for video. It's waterproof to 15m, shockproof to 2.1m, and freezeproof to -10C, as well as having the ability to withstand 100kg of load. It offers Full HD 1080P video recording in stereo, has a reinforced 75mm (3in) OLED with 610k pixel Resolution, and A-GPS, GPS Logger and Landmark recognition, as well as an E-Compass.
