Consumer drone manufacturer Parrot has launched its new generation Bebop 2 quadcopter in Australia.
The subject of an official launch in Sydney's Rushcutter's Bay last week, the compact Bebop 2 now boasts 25 minutes of flying time (up from 11), via Wi-Fi on smartphones or tablet devices using the FreeFlight 3 app. The Bebop 2 is also compatible with Skycontroller Black Edition, an optional RC-like controller providing an extended flight range up to 2km.
The app now offers a “flight plan” for pre-planning a route, which requires an in-app purchase.
Tilting the piloting device indicates the direction (forward, backward, left, right), and activating the “landing” button will see the drone automatically land, whatever the altitude.
Controlling the Bebop 2 comes via data collected by seven sensors and supplied to its onboard computer with dual-core processor and CPU quad-core.
Like its predecessor, the Bebop 2 features a slender design, no moving parts besides the propellers, and 180-degree fisheye camera lens for better clarity in low light. While a camera gimbal is absent, it features three-axis video stabilisation software.
The Parrot Bebop 2 is available now for $749.
