A new exhibition by Niobe Syme at Redfern's Arthere Gallery features cinematic and evocative daily vignettes of India's "Sun City", as viewed through a grubby train window.
The first solo exhibition for Blue Mountains-based photo media artist and writer Niobe Syme, 'Leaving Jodhpur' is the result of a long and hot summer's train journey, travelling from
Jodhpur to Delhi, across Rajasthan in India. The train carriage's smudgy
windows provided Syme with instant camera-lens filters, allowing her to
capture the heat and light at different times of the day with a
delicate softness, providing the viewer with a sense of mystery and
romantic disconnection.
The exhibition features over 20 photographic images printed on hand-made (archival quality) Japanese washi paper and will feature at Redfern's Arthere Gallery until July 21.
