Few things are more distracting in a photo than an off-kilter horizon. In this one-step Photoshop tutorial we show you how to ensure level horizons the easy way.

Here’s an easy way to crop an image and level the horizon in one simple step. This tip works in recent versions of Photoshop and Elements.

Go to Photoshop’s Tools panel and select the Ruler Tool (it shares its spot in the Tools panel with the ‘Eyedropper Tool and Color Sampler Tools).

Now, simply click and drag to draw a line across the horizon. (If you can’t see the horizon you may need to guess its location.)

In the Tool options bar (above your image) click the ‘Straighten’ button to apply your change. Photoshop rotates the horizon to level and crops out any excess areas of the image in one simple step. So, no more excuses for tilted horizons!
