Marvel at the winning images from the 2013 Central West Astronomical Society Astrophotography Awards.
The winners of the 2013 Central West Astronomical Society Astrophotography Awards have been announced, with Martin Pugh taking out the top honours.
Pugh took home the Grand Prize of a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR camera with EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM for his image of the NGC 3718 galaxy. Other winners included Greg Gibbs who won the Wide-Field category, Troy Casswell who took out the David Malin Innovation Prize, while the News Ltd. Photo Editor's Choice went to Julie Fletcher.
The annual competition, judged by world-renowned astrophotographer Dr David Malin and jointly sponsored by Canon, CSIRO and Powerhouse Museum offers photographers in this specialised genre the chance to win Canon imaging products from a prize pool worth $10,000.
A selection of the finest astrophotographs submitted to the competition will be professionally printed on Canon PIXMA Pro inkjet printers and exhibited for the year at the CSIRO Parkes Observatory’s Visitor Centre. A second set will then tour the country in a travelling exhibition, organised by the Powerhouse Museum, to selected venues beginning with Sydney Observatory in August.
