Canadian humanitarian documentary photographer and optometrist, Dr Larry Louie has taken top honours in the 2010 international Travel Photographer of the Year awards (TPOTY) with stunning, highly atmospheric portfolios of black and white images of Mali and China.
Photographers in over 70 countries submitted thousands of images for this year’s contest. Entrants from 34 countries were shortlisted and photographers from 18 countries scooped individual category awards.
As always, TPOTY offered a great selection of prizes from sponsors Adobe Systems, Genesis Imaging, Intrepid Travel, LEE Filters, Lexar, Photo Iconic, Plastic Sandwich, Wacom, and Young Photographers Alliance for the winners, runner-up, highly commended and commended entrants in each category.
In addition to the title of Travel Photography of the Year, Mr Louie won a GBP1000 cash bursary, an Intrepid Travel trip to Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, Adobe CS5 Design Premium software, a Lexar Professional 400x 32GB CompactFlash card and Lexar Professional Dual-Slot card reader, and a customised leather portfolio from Plastic Sandwich.
