Dru Maasepp has won Australian Photography + digital magazine's October 'Architecture' photo competition with an extraordinary photo of a triangular building set against a backdrop of curved star trails in the night.

"Over an hour-and-a-half I recorded the star trails with 30 second exposures and I also captured a seven exposure HDR for the building itself," said Dru. "This image is the result of several visits trialling different compositions and techniques to record the star trails. Longer than an hour and a half and frost started to accumulate on the front of the lens, blurring the photos!"

Australian Photography + digital editor Robert Keeley praised Maasepp for his patience and persistence: "The photographer has really put a big effort in here, both in the field and later with post production. He visited this arboretum many times at night, experimenting with both exposures and settings."

Maasepp has won an Epson Stylus Photo R2000 valued at $1099 courtesy of Epson Australia. Two other photographers were highly commended in the monthly competition, Hans Lignell and Alia Naughton.

The monthly Your Best Shot photo competition is open to subscribers of Australian Photography + digital magazine and members of the Australian Photographic Society (APS).
