Video: How to shoot in harsh light
Although we always want to shoot in morning or afternoon light, sometimes you just don't have a choice and need to work with what's in front of you.
So how do you make the most of it?
In this useful video by photographer Roman Fox, you'll pick up a few tips for photographing in harsh light.
One of the tips we liked was the idea of embracing the conditions with your editing workflow. That means not trying to turn a washed out, low contrast image into a high contrast shot, and vice versa, as it can just leave your results looking muddled.
Instead, when capturing low contrast images, it can be useful to try and emphasise the low contrast, and the same when editing high contrast scenes.
Roman's tip for looking for reflections, which will be emphasised in bright light, is another handy tip, but there's a bunch of useful advice in this video that really shows that there's always a good time to take a photo.
