Video: How to turn your garage into a home photography studio
If you've ever wanted to shoot portraits at home, then this video from portrait photographer Pye Jirsa from SLR Lounge is a great introduction. The only prerequsities are a garage, a backdrop, and a camera, but even a smartphone will do the trick.
Jye's setup is fairly inexpensive and also (handily) quite easy to break down. That means if you need to use your garage as an actual garage, you can still do it. But when you want to shoot portraits, you can easily set it up as a studio space for portraits using just natural daylight.
Jye's tips are also great as they focus more on technique than gear, and demonstrate clearly how understanding the way the light is falling and adjusting the position of your subject and the camera can make a huge difference to the final product. As he explains, technique will take you 80-90% there, and gear will take you the remaining 10-20%.
