Video: The benefits of Aperture Priority
Although you'll need to understand the exposure triangle of shutter speed, aperture and ISO if you're to have any success with photography, the semi automatic modes, Aperture Priority (Av) and Shutter Priority (Tv), are extremely handy, and in fact for most of the subjects we shoot here at AP, they are our go-to settings. Why? Well for all the reasons in this great video by Henry Turner, that's why!
Where Av can be especially useful is in quickly changing lighting conditions, such as moving from inside to outside. But it's also a great setting to use when combined with Auto ISO. This takes two of the exposure variables out of your hands and lets you focus on composition and framing, safe in the knowledge your camera will meter the scene correctly.
Aperture Priority is also one of those settings that's come into it's own with mirrorless technology as these cameras 'what-you-see-is-what-you-get' viewfinders allow you to see in real-time how the image is being captured.
Finally, if you are new to photography, Aperture Priority can also be a fantastic stepping stone between automatic and full manual mode as you gain more confidence.
