Emma Jones, Aerial Abrolhos (Aerial 2021)
These photos were taken from a plane travelling over the Houtman Abrolhos islands off the coast of Western Australia. The 120-odd islands are the site of many shipwrecks, including the infamous Batavia in 1629 where mutineers murdered over a hundred of the survivors. The islands are now a National Park and also a major Western Rock Lobster fishery. 1. Beacon Island, also known as Batavia's Graveyard, where many shipwreck survivors were murdered and buried. 2. West Wallabi Island, where Batavia soldiers fought off the mutineers. 3. Coral reefs of the Abrolhos. 4. Little Pigeon Island, inhabited by rock lobster fishermen.
