Nicole Matthews, An imaginary Hawkesbury (Landscape 2017)
This is not the day-time river with its jet skiiers and beach barbecues. As civil twilight brightens towards dawn, the flooded river valleys unfurl from the fog. In summer, hazard burns flatten out the scene. It’s quiet, but there are living things here, not least the mist, water, sandstone and sky.
