Greg Wyncoll, Antechinus (Wildlife and Animal 2019)
These pictures of Antechinus were taken over a two week period in Spring last year at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve just outside of Canberra. I was told by the rangers that Dusk Antechinus was know for the area. However, after a couple of weeks of observing and photographing them it was easy to discern that there were at least two species. The lighter coloured one in three of the photographs of this series is probably Agile Antechinus and arboreal and largely nocturnal species. The darker coloured one pictured eating some sort of arthropod is probably a variety of Dusky Antechinus which has now been spilt into a number of species. The pictures of these fast moving little animals were taken in difficult conditions in early morning dappled understory light amongst stringy bark litter an ferns. Thankfully the plentiful Red-bellied Black snakes were not as active on the chilly Spring mornings.
