Judy Knowles, Aurora Australis Over Yuin Country (LANDSCAPE 2024)

I was fortunate enough to be awake on this spring morning as the Aurora Australis appeared in our early morning skies and put on a show that is indelibly etched in my mind. I made the split decision to leave my camera and wake my family, so they could also view this incredible weather phenomenon while it was briefly, but clearly, visible to the naked eye. A rare event for this far north. The surrounding mountain range to our south created the perfect basket for the colours of the Aurora to be cradled in. The lone skeleton of a dead eucalypt reaching up from the earth, as if to touch the elusive ember glow above.
